About

Claudia Wool is a Chilean Contemporary Textile Artist and Weaver. She specializes in hand-woven tapestries, textile art journals, and conceptual watercolors. Her multidisciplinary background, which includes Journalism and Social Sciences, informs her practice, grounding her artistic work in conceptual rigor.

Her lifelong passion for fiber began with the Merino and Corriedale wool from the Magallanes Region in Chilean Patagonia. This connection to the landscape and the fiber’s intrinsic quality became the enduring engine of her creative vision.

Prior to dedicating herself fully to her art, Claudia gained significant experience in communication and management in Punta Arenas, Chile, while also establishing Wool Crafts, her brand dedicated to 100% Magellan wool yarns. Between 2018 and 2021, she formally integrated watercolor into her practice to enhance her creative expression and mastery of color.

Since late 2022, Claudia has embraced a nomadic lifestyle, transforming her motorhome into a mobile studio. This shift prioritizes a slower, more spontaneous life, focusing on new experiences and inspiration across the globe. This approach has led her to explore miniature textile work and develop a unique methodology compatible with limited space and materials.

Today, her artistic output is driven by visual and emotional documentation, often expressed through her textile art journals. She documents her nomadic journey on her YouTube channel, “Diario Viajero 2.0,” and shares insights into her textile practice in her newsletter.

Statement

From a very young age, my deep curiosity about the world and human nature, nurtured by reading and writing, has been the foundation of my imaginative capacity. Although my academic background includes journalism, social sciences, and administration, my curious and creative nature ultimately led me to textile creation as my primary medium of expression.

My connection to natural fibers was born from the Merino and Corriedale sheep flocks of the Magallanes Region in Chilean Patagonia. The distinctive quality of this fiber, coupled with the majestic vastness of the landscape, quickly became the intrinsic driving force of my contemporary practice.

In my process, conceptual watercolors and writing function as essential preparatory stages. They allow me to develop and refine the chromatic concepts, textures, and sensations before translating them into fiber.

I view tapestry weaving as the construction of a structural canvas. This initial woven surface is then meticulously intervened using post-loom techniques such as stitching, embroidery, and dyeing, transforming the textile into a layered conceptual work. The Textile Art Journals are an integral part of this practice, functioning as miniature textile works that document my visual and emotional experiences.

My inexhaustible source of inspiration is my own visual experience, which I nourish daily through attentive observation. Since late 2022, I have adopted a nomadic, slower, and more spontaneous life, traveling the world in a motorhome. This journey has transformed my view of space, making my studio a boundless entity with no walls or ceiling, allowing my process to be constantly informed by the world around me.
