Hello, I’m Claudia Wool, a Chilean textile artist who has dedicated her life to exploring the beauty of natural fibers and creating unique works of textile art. Today, I want to share my story, my inspiration, and how I transformed my passion for contemporary textile art into a journey that has taken me from Chilean Patagonia to traveling the world in a motorhome.
My Beginnings: From Communications to Textile Art
From a young age, I felt a deep curiosity about the world and human nature. My love for reading and writing led me to study journalism and later specialize in Social Sciences. However, it was my curious and creative nature that ultimately guided me toward textile art.
I learned to knit and crochet as a child, but it was in 2010 when I discovered my true passion: the Merino and Corriedale sheep wool from the Magallanes Region in Chilean Patagonia. The quality of this fiber, combined with the majestic Patagonian landscape, became the engine of my creative practice.
Wool Crafts: My Yarn Brand and Knitting School
In 2013, I founded Wool Crafts, my own brand of 100% hand-dyed Magellan wool yarns, and a knitting school with in-person and online programs. This project allowed me to share my knowledge and love for handmade textile art with others. Through Wool Crafts, I not only promoted the use of Magallanes wool but also contributed to preserving traditional weaving techniques.

Painting and Color: A New Creative Dimension
Between 2018 and 2021, I decided to explore new forms of expression through watercolor. This study allowed me to deepen my handling of color and enrich my creative imagination. Painting became a fundamental stage in my process, helping me to develop ideas, textures, and sensations before taking them to the loom.
For me, weaving is like constructing a canvas which I then intervene using techniques such as stitching, patchwork, and dyeing. Every piece I create is unique, an original textile artwork that fuses tradition and modernity.
A Nomadic Life: New Experiences and Inspiration
In late 2022, my family and I made a life-changing decision: to adopt a less structured and more spontaneous lifestyle. We sold our belongings, closed our company, and embarked on a trip around the world in a motorhome. This new phase has allowed me to explore miniature textile work as a format for artistic expression, adapting to the austerity of spaces and materials.
This nomadic journey has not only broadened my perspective but has also enriched my work. Every place I visit inspires me to create artistic textile designs that reflect the essence of what I see and feel. My inexhaustible source of inspiration is my own visual experience, nourished by the attentive observation of the landscapes and cultures I encounter along the way.
My Philosophy as a Textile Artist
For me, textile art is more than a technique; it is a way to preserve memory and culture. Every work I create is a unique, handmade piece that conveys the history and customs of the people. My work showcases the value and importance of modern textile art today.
I like to think of weaving as a canvas in constant evolution, where tradition and innovation intertwine to create unique textile artworks. My goal is to continue exploring, learning, and sharing my passion for Latin American textile art with the world.
A Journey That Continues
This journey has transformed not only my life but also my art. From Patagonia to Europe, every experience has left its mark on my work. If you are interested in emerging textile art in Chile, original textile creations, or simply discovering how handmade textile art can tell stories, I invite you to follow my creative journey.
