[ES] Claudia Wool es creadora textil, periodista y máster en Ciencias Sociales. Se ha formado con artesanas, artistas y maestras tapiceras en Chile y el extranjero.
En su búsqueda por transferir su imaginario en sus diseños, aprende a teñir la lana y compatibiliza su trabajo textil con su maternidad y su responsabilidad en diferentes cargos de comunicación y gestión en una empresa privada en Punta Arenas.
Teje a palillo y crochet desde niña, pero en el 2010 se vincula con la lana de las ovejas merino y corriedale en la Región de Magallanes y aprende a tejer mantas en telar.
En 2013 fundó Wool Crafts, su propia marca de hilados 100% lana de Magallanes teñidos a mano y una escuela de tejido con programas presenciales y online.
Entre 2018 y 2021 estudia acuarela con el propósito de potenciar la expresión creativa de su imaginario y su manejo del color.
A fines de 2022 y tras la decisión familiar de adoptar una vida menos estructurada y más espontánea, vende sus pertenencias y cierra su empresa para viajar por el mundo en un motorhome junto a su familia en busca de nuevas experiencias, conocimientos e inspiración.
Su nueva vida le ha llevado a optar por un telar más pequeño y a investigar el mini textil como formato de expresión artística. Ha logrado desarrollar una metodología de trabajo propia compatible con el nomadismo y la austeridad de los espacios y materiales.
En su canal de YouTube “Diario Viajero 2.0” registra y comparte las experiencias de su vida nómade en familia.
En su newsletter escribe sobre su práctica textil, negocios creativos y las experiencias de su viaje por el mundo.
[EN] Claudia Wool is a textile creator, journalist and master in Social Sciences. She has trained with artisans, artists and master tapestry makers in Chile and abroad.
Searching to translate her imagination into her designs, she learns to dye wool and balances her textile work with her motherhood and her responsibility in different communication and management positions in a private company in Punta Arenas, Chile.
She has been knitting and crocheting since she was a child, but in 2010 she connected with the wool of the Merino and Corriedale sheep in the Magallanes Region and learned to weave blankets on a loom.
In 2013 she founded Wool Crafts, her own brand of hand-dyed 100% Magellan wool yarns and a knitting school with in-person and online programs.
Between 2018 and 2021 she studied watercolor with the purpose of enhancing the creative expression of her imagination and her color sense.
At the end of 2022 she and her family made the decision to adopt a less structured and more spontaneous life. She sold her belongings and closed her business to travel the world in a motorhome with her family in search of new experiences, knowledge and inspiration.
Her new life has led her to opt for a smaller loom and to investigate mini textiles as a format of artistic expression. She has managed to develop her own work methodology compatible with nomadism and limited space and materials.
On her YouTube channel “Diario Viajero 2.0” she records and shares her experiences of nomadic life as a family.
In her newsletter she writes about her textile practice, creative businesses, and experiences traveling around the world.
STATEMENT
[ES] Desde muy joven he sentido una gran curiosidad por el mundo y la naturaleza humana debido a mi temprana vinculación con la lectura y la escritura, lo que me ha permitido desarrollar una capacidad imaginativa profunda.
Estudié periodismo, ciencias sociales y administración, pero fue mi naturaleza curiosa y creativa la que finalmente me llevó a dedicarme a la creación textil.
Mi pasión por las fibras naturales nació de los rebaños de ovejas Merino y Corriedale de la Región de Magallanes en la Patagonia chilena. La calidad de la fibra, sumada a la majestuosidad del paisaje, se convirtió rápidamente en el motor de mi práctica creativa.
En mi proceso, la escritura y la pintura son etapas relevantes pues me permiten desarrollar ideas, circunscribir conceptos, texturas y sensaciones antes de trabajarlos en el telar.
Me gusta pensar el tejido como la construcción de un lienzo para intervenir una vez fuera del telar con técnicas tales como puntadas, patchwork, teñido, entre otras.
Siempre me gustó viajar y aprender. Mi fuente inagotable de inspiración es mi propia experiencia visual, la que alimento cada día a través de la atenta observación.
Desde fines de 2022 llevo una vida nómada, más lenta y espontánea. Junto a mi familia, recorro el mundo en un motorhome en busca de nuevos conocimientos e inspiración.
[EN] From a very young age I have felt great curiosity about the world and human nature due to my early connection with reading and writing, which has allowed me to develop a deep imaginative capacity.
I studied journalism, social sciences and administration, but it was my curious and creative nature that finally led me to dedicate myself to textile creation.
My passion for natural fibers was born from the flocks of Merino and Corriedale sheep from the Magallanes Region in Chilean Patagonia. The quality of the fiber, coupled with the majesty of the landscape, quickly became the driving force of my creative practice.
In my process, writing and painting are important stages that allow me to develop ideas and refine concepts, textures and sensations before working them on the loom.
I like to think of weaving as the construction of a canvas on which I can intervene using techniques including stitching, patchwork and dyeing once it is off the loom.
I have always loved to travel and learn. My inexhaustible source of inspiration is my own visual experience, which I nourish every day through attentive observation.
Since the end of 2022 I have been living a nomadic, slower and more spontaneous life. Together with my family, I travel the world in a motorhome in search of new knowledge and inspiration.
